Chris has over 26 years of professional accounting experience. Immediately upon graduating from the University of Maryland Baltimore County in 1993, Chris joined Wolpoff & Company, one of the largest regional public accounting firms in Maryland at the time. After over 6 years of working with clients of different sizes and from various industries, Chris left public accounting to become the Controller of Continental Realty Corporation (CRC), a large, privately held real estate owner and developer based in Baltimore County, Maryland. While at CRC Chris was responsible for the financial accounting and tax compliance of the CRC and all of the properties in its portfolio. He was also involved in the oversight of CRC’s Information Technology department and assisted with the administration of its insurance and risk management needs. Chris left CRC as Vice President in August of 2007 to co-found Staines, Wiley & Schutz, LLC (SWS).
Since forming SWS in 2007, Chris has continued his work with clients of all sizes in a variety of industries including real estate management and development, franchise owners, insurance companies, renewable energy and several service businesses. He has also represented clients during examinations with the Internal Revenue Service and the Comptroller of Maryland.
Chris holds a Masters of Taxation from the University of Baltimore. Chris is a member of the Maryland Association of CPAs and the American Institute of CPAs. In addition to his professional responsibilities Chris is an operations member with the Ellicott City Fire Department and is a national registered Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). He resides in Ellicott City, Maryland with his wife and two children.
